The “Presidents Cupdate” offers updates and insight as anticipation builds for the event’s return to Melbourne, Australia, to be contested at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club on 9-15 December 2019.

The golf world has officially been introduced to the Chilean Champion Joaquin Niemann after he lapped the field on Sunday at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier to win by six for his first PGA TOUR title.

First player from Chile to win on the PGA TOUR? Check. First player from Chile to compete in the Presidents Cup? Chec…er…Captain Els?

“I’m really proud of him and it’s a wonderful start to his season,” the International Team Captain said. “I’m looking forward to more of his great play.”

The Big Easy doesn’t want to give any hints…fair enough. But there’s no doubt Niemann made a strong case for a captain’s pick with his impressive performance.

“Being on the Presidents Cup is just a dream,” Niemann said. “Just got to be patient and get a couple more tournaments to have good golf and hopefully get in that team.”

And to do it at only 20…you read that right…20 years old? Safe to say we’ll see Joaco on an International Team or two in his career. #Cheers

…is what U.S. Captain Tiger Woods expressed in his most recent Captain’s Blog. With the top-8 finalized, the anticipation is mounting for what should be an epic Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.

The question remains if Tiger will select himself as one of four Captain’s picks in early November and become only the second playing Captain in Presidents Cup history, but Captain Woods concedes that “at the end of the day, the decision of who rounds out this team will ultimately be my call.”

Anyone else going to be sitting on the edge of their seat come November? #duh

Woods’ next competitive start will take place at the inaugural ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP, where it was recently announced that Tiger will take on Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama in “The Challenge: Japan Skins”, which should be as intense as it sounds. A four-man skins game on the Monday of tournament week? Sign us up.

We’re referring to the 24 junior boys who qualified for the 2019 Junior Presidents Cup and punched their ticket to what will be an epic experience in their young careers. Yes, that’s the second time we’ve used the word “epic” in this Cupdate…

Let’s start with the fact that they will have legendary Captains Justin Leonard and Stuart Appleby leading the way, with 10 Presidents Cup appearances and 21 PGA TOUR victories between them…#nufsaid

Or what about getting to compete at Royal Melbourne in Presidents Cup conditions just a few days before the pros take center stage? And then get to meet and take Team Photos with their golfing heroes? Yeah, this week is going to be one to remember…

Even Captain Woods chimed in on the youngsters’ accomplishment…

Aussies Karl Vilips and Joshua Greer will get the opportunity to represent their country on home soil and can’t wait to show their teammates around…

Meanwhile, FIVE (!!) South Africans qualified for the International Team. Somewhere, Captain Els and Gary Player are smiling…

What a difference eight years make if your name is Webb Simpson.

The native North Carolinian is heading back to the site of his Presidents Cup debut in 2011 as a PLAYERS champion, U.S. Open champion and four more kiddos in tow!

As the PGA TOUR’s Sean Martin writes…Simpson was the young, wide-eyed and nervous member of Fred Couples’ U.S. Team who wanted playing partner Bubba Watson to hit the tee shot on the first hole of their Foursomes match.

Let’s face it, Webb is a different man now. And for someone who grew up playing the bump and run, he should feel right at home at Royal Melbourne.
