I am sure some of you and especially us dog lovers, will remember an article by me in Global Travel Media CLICK HERE back in April about two gorgeous schnauzer dogs, Nikka and Boofa, [pictured looking very sad in Asia on their own] which were stuck overseas in Asia and appealing for your help.
Well, I am delighted let you know that QANTAS, in the form of the amazing Andrew David, Chief Executive Officer, QANTAS Domestic and Freight and the equally amazing Nick McGlynn, Chief Customer Officer, QANTAS Freight Enterprises and their incredible QANTAS Freight team in Singapore have managed to perform what was the virtually impossible task of getting Nikka and Boofa back to Australia.
We all know that there are no international QANTAS passenger flights right now and it seems likely not until mid 2021, except for the odd repatriation flights, and also there are only very few freight flights with any airline.
So, as you can imagine with massive amounts of freight normally carried on passenger aircraft this created massive pressure on space, with freight space at an absolute premium.
Oh, and here are some very big “WOOFS” for QANTAS from Nikka and Boofa!
That is why Nikka and Boofa’s owner Trevor Shelley, even though they were very happy to pay QANTAS and had raised funds from generous contributors to a Go Fund Me appeal, could not get his gorgeous schnauzers back to Australia simply because of lack of any freight space for pets!
Trevor told me he and his wife were very scared they would never see their pups again, with these gorgeous dogs having been cooped up in quarantine in Malaysia since early January and then in Singapore, mainly in January and February because of changes in regulations for pets being shipped from Asia to Australia, to prevent increasing illegal trade, especially reportedly from China.

So, as some of you will know Global Travel Media took up the cause of Nikka and Boofa, with articles and industry contacts, with other airlines wishing they could help but could not, but QANTAS’ Andrew and Nick and the QANTAS team in Singapore were not going to be beaten by this very strange world in which we all, coming to the rescue, managing the impossible, getting Nikka and Boofa on board QANTAS flights to Melbourne a few weeks ago for quarantine.
More good news too is that both gorgeous pups completed quarantine and are now safely at home enjoying life and I am sure telling their dog friends about their trials and tribulations and how QANTAS rescued them!

Trevor and his wife told me they could not thank Andrew and Nick and the QANTAS team in Singapore enough, also telling me me that Nikka’s and Boofa’s international travel and flying days are over!
