Qatar Airways has made a generous donation of $80,000 to the 2021 Good Friday Appeal. The Good Friday Appeal is a charity that raises money to enable The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne to continue providing world-class care for children.

The Appeal brings all sectors of the community together to raise funds every year culminating in a telethon on Good Friday.

According to Qatar Airways’ Vice President Australasia & North Asia, Mr. Thomas Scruby, the donation provides an opportunity for the airline to thank the local community after a tough year.

During a difficult last 12 months, we are proud to have kept flying throughout the pandemic and bringing home as many travellers as possible. Since 1 March 2020, our airline has helped carry over 250,000 Australians and international travellers home. Australians have continued to champion our efforts on this journey, so we wanted to say thank you to the community for their support, and give back to those who need it most,” said Scruby.

He continued: “Every year, the Good Friday Appeal inspires the wider community to unite for a good cause, and this year is particularly significant following the impacts of COVID-19. We are honoured to be able to play a small part in this, and raise much-needed funds to support the critical work of The Royal Children’s Hospital”

Since 1931, The Good Friday Appeal has raised $381 million, helping deliver the best possible care to patients and their families at The Royal Children’s Hospital. The donations have supported ground-breaking research, state-of-the-art equipment and technology, patient and family centred care programs, as well as fostering staff excellence through education programs, scholarships and fellowships.

Qatar Airways recently became the first global airline in the world to achieve the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax. A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Airline’ by the 2019 World Airline Awards, managed by Skytrax. It was also named ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, ‘World’s Best Business Class’, and ‘Best Business Class Seat’, in recognition of its ground-breaking Business Class experience, Qsuite. The Qsuite seat layout is a 1-2-1 configuration, providing passengers with the most spacious, fully private, comfortable and socially distanced Business Class product in the sky. Qsuite is available on flights to more than 45 destinations including Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, London and Singapore. It is the only airline to have been awarded the coveted ‘Skytrax Airline of the Year’ title, which is recognised as the pinnacle of excellence in the airline industry, five times.
