The total number of passengers travelling through the terminal increased by 11% compared with February 2018 to 198,235 passengers, with growth even across the month.

  • Domestic traffic was up 10% on last year to 148,904.
  • International traffic was up 14% on last year to 49,331, with increased capacity of 23%.
  • The 12-month passenger numbers reached 2,281,988 million, up 11% compared to the previous 12 months with growth in domestic and international.
  • The busiest weekend in February coincided with Challenge Wanaka (16 February), with just under 8,000 passengers on average a day through the terminal.

Also attached is the 2019 winter schedule for Queenstown Airport services. A summary can be found below:

  • Overall capacity is scheduled to increase 13% over last winter’s schedule between 1 April and 30 September.
  • The capacity is mainly in the peak winter months (July up 16%, August up 18%, and September up 17%), due to Qantas’ new Melbourne-ZQN route (around 10,000 seats). Qantas’ Sydney services are also going from 10 to 13 per week over the ski season with an additional flight being added on Tuesdays, Thursday and Sundays.
  • Jetstar is also doubling its daily service on the Sydney route from 1 to 2 over ski season with a new afternoon flight added.
  • The peak winter weeks are from Monday 8 July to Sunday 21 July, with an average of 63 daily flights for this period (arrivals and departures).
