The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney is proud to announce their recent certification by Green Key, being the first Radisson hotel in the APAC region to be awarded with this responsible business award.

Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney has passed a stringent audit set out by the Foundation for Environmental Education, to ensure they meet the standards set out by Green Key International, inclusive of satisfying energy, water-saving, and waste-reducing requirements.

The hotel’s staff have demonstrated tremendous commitment to the Radisson Hotel Group’s ethos of Think People, Think Community, Think Planet via many responsible business initiatives.

Highlights of their commitment to making eco-friendly changes include introducing a 100% renewable energy pledge by mid-2020, thanks to a new initiative and industry partnership with Simply Energy.

General Manager, Peter Tudehope said, “It is exciting and satisfying to see how the Radisson brand’s commitment to Responsible Business has seen us earn our first Green Key, as it influences our own staff’s actions. Our employees are able to get involved as well as suggest new ways we can improve our dedication to be an eco-friendly hotel.”

The hotel also participates in Soap for Hope, an initiative by Diversey whereby used soap cakes are donated, sanitised and repurposed into new soap bars for communities in need. Recently, 12 staff from the hotel volunteered their time to help produce these soap bars and were able to create over 200 new soap bars to donate to St Vincent de Paul. Soap for Hope has so far provided to date over 6.1 million soap bars to those in need worldwide.

With the purchase of a Waste to Water processing unit, Radisson Blu Sydney has been able to ensure 95% of food waste is recycled and avoids landfill, due to the microbial system which decomposes food waste and creates a nutrient-rich liquid for safe disposal.

Other smaller initiatives making a difference every day, include the use of eco-friendly bamboo packing for cocktail events, biodegradable straws, reusable coffee cups and the use of glass bottled water in guest rooms and meeting spaces.
