Since March, as you know, we have been handling members cancellations and refunds and although not yet completed, the number still pending are significantly reduced. There are many members who have elected for credits and there will be exciting times ahead when there is a plan for travel restrictions to be lifted in our region and you can begin your planning.
We all expect there will be many changes in the way that various elements of travel evolve. There is much going on behind the scenes in terms of operational safety measures, protocols and processes around the world, aimed at reassurances to keep people safe. At TIC, we are continually engaging with many suppliers and industry organisations to keep as up to date as possible and will be ready to help our members when the time comes.

In cruising some evolvements will obviously include monitoring on board, more frequent cleaning and social distancing, but new technology developments for inceased safety measures, major refits for some cruise lines, a tendency for extended dining hours, more dining places, smaller groups going ashore with longer stays in ports, emphasis on outside decks, itinerary changes to smaller destinations, remoteness will be key, and if buffets at all, they will be served by crew. Each cruise line is developing their own protocols but eventually there will be a concrete set of protocols worldwide with the aim that cruising will be the safest style of holiday.

It was a surprise to learn that Ponant, a modern fleet of 9 small ships with the latest generation technology on board, has had it’s entire fleet cruising the last couple of months in Europe and the Mediterranean – they have operated over 40 cruises over this period. Lucky for some!

We’ve also been busy lately booking many of you on the Indian Pacific , The Ghan and the Great Southern rail with Journey Beyond. Did you know they also offer an amazing dining experience on Sydney Harbour? Their offer is a true epicurean discovery of New South Wales, featuring seasonal and regionally sourced ingredients paired with a range of complimentary wines from some of the state’s most prestigious wine regions. Having enjoyed both their lunch & dinner cruises, I’d best describe my experience with them as personal, stylish and distinctly Sydney: all whilst enjoying ever changing vistas on our iconic Harbour.
