Relaxation between mountains and sea

Tenerife captivates its visitors with barren crater landscapes, steep coasts and impressive forests of pine, eucalyptus or laurel – a true El Dorado for hikers and nature lovers. Far from the more touristic south, the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa is located in the small town of Punta del Hidalgo in the northern part of the island. The hotel is not only the perfect starting point for all kinds of outdoor activities but with its spa and the new Center of Healthy Motion also provides a wide range of health offers with long-lasting effects.

Since its opening in the 1970s, the OCÉANO has been known for its health and wellness treatments and offers sustainable relaxation in harmony with nature. A must-visit for many visitors on Tenerife is the El Teide National Park with its impressive 3,700-meter-high stratovolcano – the island’s landmark that one has to see.

Discovering Tenerife’s diversity

Escaping everyday life, enjoying the silence and the moment – this is particularly easy in the Anaga UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It starts just a few hundred meters behind the hotel and is characterized by its laurel forest: countless lichens and ferns climb up the trees and make for a special jungle mood. Besides, clouds and fog create an almost mystical mood in the forest. One of Tenerife’s most beautiful hiking trails can also be found here in the Anaga mountains and leads from Punta del Hidalgo on old ‘Caminos’ (paths) with a view of the ocean and the impressive gorge Barranco del Rio to the cave village Chinamada and through the laurel forest to Cruz del Carmen.

To get to know the varied nature of the island better and to learn more about the culture of Tenerife, a guided tour is worthwhile. Norberto Crespo comes from the island himself and has worked as a hiking guide for 15 years, and today he accompanies the guests of the OCÉANO. He’s more than happy to share his interest in flora and fauna and his love for nature during the tours – and guests are regularly impressed by his knowledge of the geography and history of the Tenerife. As is well known, the best comes at last: after a busy day, the wellness area of the OCÉANO spoils you with a thalasso pool, sauna, massages, and more offering relaxation and providing new energy.

In three stages across the island

The vegetative diversity of Tenerife can be explored well on the long-distance hiking trail: hikers cover a total of 100 km from the start in the Anaga Mountains to the top of the volcano Teide and on to Vilaflor, on the southwestern edge of the Corona Foresta National Park. The trek can only be completed in various stages and is demanding, confirms hiking guide Norberto: “The hike through the volcanic rock of the Parador Nacional del Teide is not for beginners. But if you’re already in good shape and condition, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views over the whole island of Tenerife”.

Active relaxation by the sea

Exercise in nature and active relaxation by the sea – both aspects are equally important for the OCÉANO and not only ensure a relaxing holiday, but also promote long-term health. Staying by the sea alone already shows the effects of strengthening and energizing. Also, the new, light-flooded Center of Healthy Motion that was built during renovations last year, expands the existing offer. Here – with a view of the Atlantic – not only a modern fitness course, a tennis court, and a bouldering wall ensure varied sports units, various courses train strength, flexibility, and mental relaxation: from yoga to aqua fitness to relaxation training, there is something for everyone at OCÉANO.

For the best start into the day, guests can take part in the ‘Awakening at the sea’, a light morning workout that contributes to inner balance. Personal trainers, as well as various fitness and performance diagnostics, are available for more intensive athletic support, and individual fitness programs are available on request. The power of the ocean plays an outstanding role in all areas of OCÉANO, including yoga, which has recently taken place in the new ‘Yoga Space’: located on the roof terrace, shielded from the sun and wind while offering a panoramic view. The Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga courses are offered in different levels of difficulty, individual courses are also possible.

Recharging the batteries, discovering the impressive, diverse nature and sustainably promoting health – with its comprehensive health and wellness program, the OCÉANO Hotel Health Spa makes it possible.
