Renaissance Hotels announced today the opening of Renaissance Nanning Hotel – the brand’s first hotel in Guangxi, China – extending an open invitation for travellers to discover the vibrant spirit of the country’s southernmost region. Infused with the cordial Guangxi Zhuang culture, the hotel embraces Renaissance Hotels’ unexpected design aesthetic throughout its 301 guestrooms and suites, five restaurants and 1,000 sqm of meeting spaces. The hotel’s theatrical design, paired with its entertaining evening rituals and engaging Navigators, embodies the spirit of what Renaissance Hotels stands for and ensures that guests will always leave with a new sense of the destination.

Officially known as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, this tranquil mountainous area in the far south of China shares a border with neighbouring Vietnam, and thus has always been on the frontier of Chinese civilization throughout history.

“We are thrilled to open the very first Renaissance hotel in Guangxi, marking another auspicious milestone in Marriott International’s rapidly expanding portfolio in the country,” said Vice President, Mike Fulkerson, Brand and Marketing Asia-Pacific, Marriott International. “With its rich history and cultural heritage, Guangxi is China’s exciting gateway to Southeast Asia. This exciting new opening further reinforces Renaissance Hotels’ global commitment to ensuring that guests experience the DNA of the neighborhood.”

Created in collaboration with Eco-id Architects Pte Ltd, Renaissance Nanning Hotel is imbued with a sense of clever theatricality, where spaces surprise and delight guests with unexpected moments, each thoughtfully designed to tell a story. The hotel’s design is inspired by the diverse landscape of Nanning and the colourful culture of the ancient Zhuang, the indigenous people of Guangxi region who comprise the largest minority group in China. Traditional Zhuang weaving becomes a theme that unifies the design narrative throughout the hotel. In the guestrooms, work area lamps are inspired by the traditional fish cages of the region. Above the bed, a pattern of interwoven leather echoes the rich patterns of Zhuang brocade.

Capturing the region’s rainy season, an art installation at the hotel entrance theatrically evokes the experience of walking in the rain. Stylized mountainside rice terraces form a sculptural backdrop for the reception desks where an abstract dragon can be seen dancing overhead. At the hotel’s signature R Bar, LED lights inside traditional Zhuang percussion instruments simulate the natural rhythms and reverberations of falling rain.

“The newly opened Renaissance Nanning Hotel features original interiors and unexpected artwork that highlight the distinctive personality of the neighbourhood,” said Alex Han, General Manager, Renaissance Nanning Hotel.

The hotel’s five restaurants and bars tempt diners with a selection of locally inspired cuisine and international fare. Commissary Pantry is a lively Asian fusion outlet with an open kitchen, where chefs take center stage preparing expansive buffets that showcase local, Asian and western favorites. Wan Li Restaurant specializes in traditional seasonal Guangxi and Cantonese cuisine in a fine-dining setting. For social or corporate gatherings, the restaurant features five private dining rooms that tastefully combine modern and classic Chinese decor. Maison Ribeye serves fine steaks accompanied by a reinterpreted classic Café de Paris butter-based sauce, paired with an extraordinary wine list and followed by delicate French-style desserts. Its unique decor includes a map of Paris, reinterpreted in a traditional Zhuang-style fabric pattern. The Mill & Co and Floral Studio is part flower shop and part tea salon, featuring delightful floral arrangements, afternoon tea, desserts and pastries. The R Bar is at the vibrant heart of the “Evenings at Renaissance” program at all Renaissance hotels worldwide, where guests will be unexpectedly inspired in the evenings with a delectable menu of cocktails, desserts and entertainment.

The more than 1,000 sqm of meeting and banquet spaces, including a 580-sqm ballroom with 56-sqm LED screen and four multi-functional rooms are managed by R.E.N. Meetings, Renaissance Hotels’ creative meetings platform. R.E.N. Meetings provides planners with a dedicated event team that will reflect the neighbourhood across all senses – from styling of each space, incredible locally sourced catering and turnkey social breaks to inspire and motivate networking among guests.

Guests can also take advantage of the spa and fitness centre with a full range of premium Technogym fitness equipment as well as a yoga room and tailor-made training programs. An expansive 228 sqm indoor heated pool is featured for those wanting to take a plunge.

Renaissance Nanning Hotel features all of the Renaissance brand’s immersive guest experiences, including Evenings at Renaissance where guests can connect with the locale through nightly programming. A diverse group of local businesses and notable personalities will serve as This Way partners, giving travellers a glimpse into the neighbourhood by highlighting the style, eats and beats of the destination. The hotel’s Navigators are also on hand to share hidden indigenous gems that travellers won’t find in the guidebooks.

Located in the fast-growing Wuxiang New District, a modern eco-city in a newly developed area of Nanning, Renaissance Nanning Hotel is only 30-minute drive from Nanning Wuxu International Airport, and 20 minutes from Nanning East High-Speed Railway Station. It is conveniently accessible from China’s Regional Trade Center for the ASEAN Free Trade Area, as well as the headquarters of the Pan-Beibu Gulf Cooperation Zone. In proximity is also Qingxiu Mountain and Fangte Water Paradise on the bank of the Yong River, which is Nanning’s most popular tourist spot.
