When the clock strikes 8 AM, on May 5th, Rio de Janeiro and 66 other cities around the world will start the fight to cure for spinal cord injury. It is the sixth edition of Wings for Life World Run, a yearly street run that has gathered over half a million people and whose purpose is to raise funds for scientific research. In 2018, three million were raised across the globe.

In Rio or in other cities of the world, such as London, Milan and New York, professional athletes, amateur runners and wheelchair users will start at the same time, regardless of the time zone. Last year, four thousand people ran through the streets of Rio, starting at Recreio beach, running along the entire coast, including Barra da Tijuca, Ipanema and Copacabana. They were able to experience the innovative concept of the run, which is known for not having a fixed finish line.

Contrary to traditional events, at Wings For Life World Run the finish line follows the athletes. Th so-called “Catcher Car” starts 30 minutes after the competitors and gradually increases speed, reaching one by one. The last person to be reached by the vehicle is the champion of the event.

To participate, choose the city where you wish to run and register at www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com. Those who cannot run in one of the official locations of the event can also participate through the Wings For Life World Run app, available for Android and iOS.
