EPISODE FIVE: The Caviar of Sicily and Other Stories from Lunch on the Farm

The second of the podcast’s two-part series on Sicily, this episode follows host Adam Sachs as he continues his visit at Regaleali, the Tasca family estate in the heart of Sicily. He speaks with Fabrizia Lanza, one of Sicily’s most important culinary voices. After a career as an art historian, Fabrizia returned to her family estate and now runs both the Food Heritage Association, a non-profit initiative dedicated to the collection, promotion, and exchange of Sicilian and Mediterranean food culture, and the cooking school started by, and named for, her pioneering mother Anna Tasca Lanza.

Between sharing her storied family history, demonstrating how to bake a 500-year old “cake-within-a-cake” with local sheep’s milk ricotta, and teaching Adam about caviar that doesn’t come from a fish, Fabrizia comments on food and family: “Food has been a great tool to put us together around a table, to quarrel, to love each other.”
