The ultimate destination for contemporary music in Istanbul since 2010, Salon İKSV uncovers its staggering Fall 2018 programme. From the most anticipated artists and bands to new discoveries and regular guests, Salon İKSV will be as vibrant as ever, from Saturday, 8 September onwards.

Kickstarting the season with Rhye on two consecutive nights

The new season at Salon İKSV will kickstart on Saturday, 8 September with Rhye. The band was formed in 2013 when Danish Michael Milosh was introduced to Dutch Robin Hannibal, while he was playing for the band named Quadron. The duo recorded their first three songs within only a week. They released their songs Open and The Fall mysteriously online, and suddenly drew the attention of the music world on themselves. The androgynous vocals of Milosh were likened to that of Sade, and got compared with The xx. They conquered all the music lists with their debut album, Woman, and took the stages in the greatest festivals from Coachella to Pitchfork Music Festival, and from Montreal Jazz Festival to Primavera Sound. Their Istanbul debut was hosted by Salon İKSV in 2015. They took on a worldwide tour following the release of their second album, Blood, at the beginning of this year. On their second visit to Istanbul, they will be playing two nights at Salon İKSV.

Solo project from Maarten Devoldere of Balthazar: Warhaus

Warhaus is the solo project of the Belgian indie rock band Balthazar’s front man, Maarten Devoldere. Devoldere made his first solo appearance with the debut EP, The Good Lie, that was a collaboration with Sylvie Kreusch, Devoldere’s romantic partner and the vocalist of Soldier’s Heart. The title of his 2016 debut, We Fucked a Flame into Being, was a quote from D.H. Lawrence’s novel, Lady Chatterley’s Lover. The dark sentimentality of the album was likened to those of Leonard Cohen, Serge Gainsbourg, and Tom Waits. A year later, he released his self-titled second album. It will be his first performance at Salon İKSV as Warhaus, after his previous gig with his band mate, J. Bernardt. Warhaus will be at Salon İKSV on 15 September presenting a purely minimalist music with a pop sensitivity, in the scope of the Garanti Jazz Green concerts.

Best tunes with Okkervil River

On Wednesday, 19 September, Salon İKSV will host the Texan indie rock band Okkervil River, formed by Will Sheff in Austin, Texas, where no day passes by without another gift is presented to the music world. Their debut album cracked the gates open to the world-famous music fair South by Southwest, followed by their joining to one of the greatest families of indie-rock, Jagjaguwar. Sheff, together with the band’s very first accordionist and pianist Jonathan Meiburg, formed Shearwater, another band to collect and perform songs that fall outside the Okkervil River style. This was to cause Meiburg to leave Okkervil River and move on solely with Shearwater in the long run. Despite all the separations they have gone through, Okkervil River managed to be one of the most sought-after bands and restructured themselves after the founding member Sheff overcame his therapies. According to Sheff, the 2017 tour with the new band members has been the most inspiring since 2003. The stories they collected during the tour paved the way to the 2018 album In the Rainbow Rain. They will be at Salon İKSV on 19 September to tell those stories first-hand.
