IT’S MORE THAN JUST MUSIC: SALON İKSV IN FEBRUARY

An indispensable venue offering new discoveries for those seeking alternative sounds in Istanbul since 2010, Salon İKSV is as vibrant as ever in February. The artists to take the stage at Salon include Khruangbin, The Kites, ELZ AND THE CULT and Ben Fero.

Birlikte Güzel: Khruangbin / Friday-Saturday-Sunday, 8-9-10 February, 22.00-22.30- 20:00

Texan indie pop band Khruangbin caught the attention of many newspapers and magazines from The Guardian to i-D by the strength of the exotic touches apparent in their sound. They became widely known through Bonobo’s cure for the craving of new and good music, the Late Nights compilation. Their name means ‘airplane’ in Thai, which points to the international scale of the names they are inspired by, in their own words. The instrumental surf-rock band The Shadows are their musical gods. They tread the waters of both psychedelic and dream-pop as they bring the unwalked musical paths on to the stage. The band is described by The Guardian as ‘…wistful soul and slow-motion funk with an exotic ambience that might not sound out of place in a Tarantino movie.’. They left everyone in awe when they appeared on the Salon stage in 2016. Their fan base in Istanbul grew exponentially since then, peaking with their second Salon appearance at the beginning of 2018, in support of their new album Con Todo El Mundo. Now, they are revisiting their favourite venue Salon İKSV with three sold-out concerts on 8, 9 and 10 February in Istanbul in the scope of their 2019 tour.

Audioban Presents: The Kites ‘Sunset Vibes’ Album Launch Concert / Friday, 15 February, 22.00

A funk jazz project, The Kites was founded at the end of 2017 by Tan Deliorman and Ozan Erverdi who were born in the same apartment building and who have been making music together since childhood. They started to perform their own compositions and arrangements with jazz, funk, rock and fusion as their foundation. They made their live debut at the Jazz in the Parks concerts of the 25th Istanbul Jazz Festival. The fundamental drive of their music is to take a break from the daily worries of life and have some good time with their audience. They will be performing the first concert of their first album, due to be released from Audioban label, at the Salon İKSV on 15 February.

ELZ AND THE CULT ‘PSYCHODRAMA’ Album Launch Concert / Saturday, 16 February, 22.30

Istanbul based gothic-pop, dark-wave project ELZ AND THE CULT succeeded in drawing considerable attention from the media with their 2017 New Wave-inspired single I Did This To Myself both in Turkey and abroad. Briefly after, the band released their debut studio album titled Polycephaly. The band has won the Akademia Music Awards in two categories, and the same year was nominated for Hollywood Music In Media Awards along with nominees including such artists as Sam Smith and Diane Warren. Growing in popularity for their live performances the band warmed up the stage for The Soft Moon in November 2018 at the Salon İKSV. In the first month of 2019, they had two performances in London. They will be on the Salon İKSV stage on 16 February bearing many surprises for their audience including featuring their guests Bewitched as Dark and Kutay Soyocak for the launch concert of their second studio album titled PSYCHODRAMA.

Birlikte Güzel: Ben Fero ‘Orman Kanunları’ Album Launch Concert / Wednesday, 27 February, 21.30

A rising star of the local trap, hip-hop scene Ben Fero became a viral hit with his 2018 summer single Mahallemiz Esmer. His second single Kimlerdensin matched the success of the first and received the comments “scored two in two”. He has gathered the professional touch of two genius producers Bugy and DJ Artz who is also behind the success of Ezhel, a prominent Turkish rapper. He was included in Ezhel’s KOVL crew. He became very popular for his subtle and witty style making numerous references to old school hip-hop, trap scene, bodybuilding and the NBA. He will be at the Salon İKSV on 27 February with his highly anticipated debut album Orman Kanunları (The Law of the Jungle) for its first Istanbul performance.
