Forced into forming an ongoing tourism strategy to exit Corvid 19 some tourism organisations have rallied better than others.

The fading cruise industry has fought back with good deals through to 2023 and state and country wide travel within Australia is enjoying a massive resurgence. Punching well above its weight is the idyllic and tiny Island (see below) of Samoa which with an economical budget has already implemented a plan to sell the destination to potential visitors.  The first salvo is in Australia.

The Samoa Tourism Authority has created a blueprint to corral visitors in preparation for when the Covid curtain is lifted. Hosted by Fasitau Ula, the Australian Marketing and Sales Manager for Samoa in Australia, the mixture of agents, airlines, consular officials and media enjoyed a smorgasbord with some Samoan specials at the Sheraton on the Park in Sydney earlier this week.

The Consul General for Samoa in Australia addressed the 60 invitees outlining the ‘Road to Recovery’ theme the authority has adopted to promote visitation to the destination.

Travel Apps and an opportunity for agents to become Samoan Specialists received a warm welcome from the agents in attendance.

The overall mission of Samoa Tourism is to promote quality Sustainable Tourism that is beneficial to Samoa and satisfactory to tourists seeking a premier Samoa Experience.  Aloso to coordinate effective destination marketing, product and service planning as well as industry planning with the provision of timely relevant research and statistical information.

Samoa Tourism is encouraged by the announcement that a quarantine-free travel arrangement has just commenced between Australia and New Zealand. This comes following the news that a two-way travel bubble between New Zealand and Pacific Island neighbours, the Cook Islands, is slated for May.

Fiji Airlines (FJ) has been conducting ongoing repatriation flights during the last 12 months and according to John Nickel, Regional General Manager, Australia for the airline. “FJ is travel ready” he announced. The airline will also conduct a wellness campaign with a wellness champion on every flight.

Samoa Airways is currently negotiating to lease a wide bodied aircraft for international flights.  The airline returned the equipment shortly after Covid 19 hit and are according to Lydwina Nio, Regional Manager for Australia and New Zealand. The company will have an exciting announcement very shortly.

The Samoan Islands are an archipelago covering 3,030 km2 in the central South Pacific, forming part of Polynesia and of the wider region of Oceania.
