The latest authentic paddlewheeler on US rivers, the majestic, new American Countess, will ply the iconic Mississippi River in 2021. To mark her debut, the American Queen Steamboat Company and Australian partner,  small ship specialist, Cruise Traveller, are offering savings of up to US$1800 per couple for bookings made by September 30, 2020, on a colourful river journey in the northern autumn next year.

Boasting a fully-working paddlewheel – a popular signature of the American Queen Steamboat Company fleet – the new 245-guest American Countess is a riverboat replica with a sleek and contemporary design, grand dining room, elegant lounges, library, theatre, gym, sun deck and modern staterooms with plush bedding and flat screen TVs. Two thirds of staterooms offer an open or private veranda from which to take in the spectacle of river scenery and culture made famous by author, Mark Twain, and celebrated, authentically, today by the American Queen Steamboat Company.

A new, eight-night ‘Autumn on the River’ cruise and stay package begins in Red Wing, Minnesota on October 9, 2021.  Beginning with an included one night’s accommodation in the city of Minneapolis, guests will board the new American Countess and begin their journey along the Mississippi River amid the anticipated colourful hues of autumn.

Highlights of the seven-night cruise include a visit to Red Wing, Minnesota. One of National Geographic’s most historic places, Red Wing gives travellers a chance to step back in time to the days of the early pioneers of America. Explore Dubuque, the roots from which Iowa sprouted. This all-American city is filled with places to visit, including the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium and the Tiffany-designed windows of the St. Luke’s United Methodist church.

The journey along the upper reaches of the Mississippi River continues to the city of Hannibal. Made famous by the father of American literature, Mark Twain, Hannibal was the setting for the iconic novel, the ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The cruise ends in St. Louis, Missouri.

The eight-night package includes one night’s accommodation pre-cruise, the seven-night river cruise, guided, hop-on-hop-off shore excursions, locally-inspired gourmet meals, wine and beer with dinners onboard and also gratuities onboard. The package begins on October 9, 2021, and prices start from US$2635 per person, twin share, for an interior stateroom – a saving of US$300 per person. A riverview stateroom with open verandah is priced from US$4235 per person, twin share – a saving of US$900 per person. The savings are valid for bookings made by September 30, 2020.
