Scientist and filmmaker Dr Derek Muller (AKA Veritasium) announces debut Australian tour

June 8, 2018 Events / Whats On No Comments Email Email

This July, Think Inc. invites widely popular science communicator Dr Derek Muller and Emmy-award winning filmmaker Sonya Pemberton to take centre stage on a speaking tour of Australia. This, alongside the Australian theatrical premiere of their new documentary Vitamania: The Sense and Nonsense of Vitamins.

Derek is an Australian-born, Canadian scientist, filmmaker, and creator of the hit YouTube channel Veritasium which has almost 5 million subscribers. His 250+ videos have been viewed over 400 million times, making Derek one of the most watched science communicators on the planet. He is best known for addressing counter-intuitive concepts in science, and for his extraordinary ability for making the most complex stories relatable and entertaining. Derek hosted Think Inc.’s 2014 tour of Dr Michio Kaku as well as their 2015 tour of Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson.

“I can’t wait to come back to Australia!” Derek said on his upcoming Aussie tour. “I’ve been working on this film for over two years. I guarantee that everyone will learn something from Vitamania, as I did in the making of the documentary.”

Almost one billion of us regularly take a dietary supplement, mainly vitamin tablets. Vitamins are enthusiastically endorsed by celebrities, and vitamin-fortified foods line our supermarket shelves. But how safe are these products? Is it true that vitamins are “natural” and therefore can’t do you, or your children, any harm? How are they regulated, and, hey, just what is a vitamin, anyway? These are the surprisingly urgent questions investigated by Derek.

Vitamania is written and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Sonya Pemberton, Creative Director of Australia’s leading science television production company, Genepool Productions. Sonya is also the producer behind many critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning science documentaries including Uranium: Twisting the Dragon’s Tail and Jabbed: Love, Fear and, Vaccines.

The team at Think Inc. – who brought you Dr Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sam Harris, Dr Brian Greene, Jane Goodall, Steve Wozniak and Richard Dawkins – now bring to you, the coolest dude in science, Dr Derek Muller, the brilliant Australian filmmaker, Sonya Pemberton and their newest film, Vitamania: The Sense and Nonsense of Vitamins.
