Lonely Planet, the world’s leading guidebook brand, has named Sri Lanka as the place to visit in 2019. The Indian Ocean island won the approval of Lonely Planet’s editors, researchers, influencers and a panel of judges in their annual “Best in Travel 2019” list.

But what is Sri Lanka like?

Travel lifestyle brand WorldNomads.com visited the nation to film its Discoveries: Sri Lanka series.

“What people can see in the films certainly justifies the Lonely Planet accolade.” Said Emily Willis, Head of Content and Licensing at WorldNomads.com

“From the hills region in the north to the coastal areas of the west and the bustling capital Colombo, Sri Lanka is a visual feast.” She added.

The Discoveries: Sri Lanka series focuses on feasts of a culinary kind, telling the story of the nation’s rich culture and diverse environment through food.

World Nomads sent three travelers to the country to discover the essence of Sri Lanka and while learning recipes such as fish head soup, milk rice, and the ubiquitous curries.

“I feel like I’m being told the secrets to life!“ said Canadian traveler Lindsay Anderson as she foraged for ingredients in the lush forests.

Suresh Doss, another of the travelers sent by World Nomads went in search of the flavors he remembered as a child living in Sri Lanka.

“Why would you live anywhere else, everything I want is here.”

“We’ve been big fans of Sri Lanka for a while and we’re so pleased Lonely Planet has also recognized this unique corner of the world as one of the up-and-coming destinations that adventure travelers should put on their list.” Said Ms. Willis.

Travelers can see the films and Explore Sri Lanka more fully through on the World Nomads website.
