Kids with a keen interest in marine life can deep dive into the world of penguins by taking part in SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium’s new Junior Penguin Keepers program!

The series of free online resources gives primary school-aged children the opportunity to learn about life as a penguin keeper through downloadable worksheets, quizzes, live streams and interviews with experienced team members.

Along the way children will discover fascinating facts about the two sub-Antarctic penguin species at the aquarium – elegant King penguins and playful Gentoo penguins – and the wonderful team who care for them.

Created for kids who simply love animals or are interested in exploring a career in marine biology or zoology, the program will delve into penguin breeding cycles, eating habits, enrichment and veterinary care.

Aspiring Junior Penguin Keepers can get involved through SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium’s website and Facebook page. The free resources are available to individual children or virtual classrooms and all kids will receive a Junior Penguin Keeper certificate at the end of the six-week program!

The interactive activities and educational content will be posted on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 27 July to 3 September 2020, however, there’s no need to worry if you miss the start date as you can waddle in at any time throughout the six-week period.

The Junior Penguin Keepers program aims to inspire curiosity about these fascinating flightless birds, which are one of the most popular marine creatures at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium, whilst providing an educational experience for children to undertake in the comfort of their own home.
