Spread the love

A new children’s e-book which aims to virtually connect loved ones in a shared adventure through Melbourne’s famous laneways and surrounding iconic regions has been launched.

The e-book, Where In The World Is Melbourne? has been developed by Visit Victoria to bring together family members around the world for a shared adventure, a digital storytime experience using popular videotelephony technology.

In a tale of two families, the unique book can be read front-to-back or back-to-front. Each way provides a different international and local perspective on the family adventures that virtually await.

The parallel stories feature an overseas family, who are dreaming about the perfect holiday, while the other family from Melbourne are living out these dreams in their day-to-day life, as they explore the beautiful state.

The book, which highlights Victoria’s celebrated tourism attractions, is dedicated to the hard-working tourism industry that helps to make visitor experiences special for millions of people every year from around the world.

The story showcases the colourful urban canvases of Melbourne’s laneways and iconic sporting mecca, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, along with the state’s nature and wildlife, Aboriginal history and the Great Ocean Road’s famous 12 Apostles.

“Storytime is a great family tradition and we hope this book gives children from all around the world the opportunity to connect with loved ones virtually,” Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements said.

“While now is not the time to travel, children have wonderful imaginations and this book allows people to dream of visiting Melbourne and Victoria one day.”

“The book is dedicated to our Victorian tourism operators who have shown outstanding resilience and innovation following both the bushfires and coronavirus pandemic.”
