Aussie travellers can take part in an exciting new tour in the form of a roving theatre experience, called Chinatown Crossings, where they will journey back in time through the streets of Kreta Ayer*.

The promenade theatre traces the story of Kunalan, an Indian man who grew up in a Chinatown shophouse during the 1960s and 1970s, recounting his friendship with his Cantonese landlady’s feisty daughter, and his relationship with a ma jie** who became a surrogate mother to him during his growing up years.

Come experience the insides of a Chinatown shophouse; relive the echoes of living in old Singapore through a soundscape; and discover the many lost and forgotten practices, and art forms, of Chinatown’s vibrant community.

Tickets are now available for sale at www.chinatowncrossings.sg.

*Kreta Ayer is located in the centre of Chinatown, just behind the iconic Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.

*Ma jie were a group of women who came to Singapore from Guangdong, China, in the early 20th century to be domestic helpers.
