The unprecedented numbers of employees now working from home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a 20 times increase in Zoom meetings since January 2020, demonstrating how collaboration software is now a crucial tool for business, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

The coronavirus crisis has propelled collaboration software companies, notably Slack and Zoom, into unexpected prominence. Both companies have gained leading positions in GlobalData’s latest Thematic Scorecard for application software. Zoom takes second place, while Slack is third.

Stuart Ravens, Chief Analyst of Thematic Research, says: “Tools such as Slack and Zoom have become critical for business continuity amid worldwide lockdowns. In mid-March, Slack’s number of simultaneously connected users reached a record 12.5 million. In December 2019, a maximum of ten million daily meetings were held on Zoom, which was grown to 200 million in March 2020.”
