Gavin Maloney has joined Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour as the Director of Sales and Marketing.

Maloney brings extensive international experience to the role at Sydney’s high-profile, five-star property having worked for several leading luxury hotel brands across four continents, often in uniquely challenging conditions and highly competitive markets.

Maloney’s hotel experience has taken him from an early Food and Beverage career, to managing a portfolio of 23 luxury hotels and spas throughout 11 countries in Europe in his role as Regional Sales Director for Starwood Hotels & Resorts which includes highly renowned brands such as W and St Regis.

His hospitality career has taken him from Australia to Asia, the Middle East and Europe and includes three and a half years as Director of Sales and Marketing for Westin and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi, Resort and Marina Dubai; Director of Sales and Marketing for Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok, for three years; Director of Sales and Marketing at Sheraton Pattaya Resort (now Intercontinental Pattaya Resort) for two and a half years; and Global Account Manager for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Sydney, for 18 months.

Immediately prior to joining Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour in August, Maloney was a consultant for Great Southern Outbound (GSO), a hotel and resort representation company in Sydney for six months.

“Having opened the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour nearly a year ago, we are excited for Gavin to join our senior team and take us to the next phase of growth in the highly dynamic Sydney accommodation market” said Greg Brady, General Manager.

His successes include putting the Westin and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Complex firmly on the map in Dubai as a top performing luxury resort within Starwood Middle East; supporting 16 multi-brand luxury property openings on time and on budget across Europe within a three-year period, and overcoming periods of political unrest, terrorist activity and even natural disaster in Thailand, to realign operations and drive top line results from new market creation.

At the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour, Maloney will be responsible for all sales and marketing activities, developing and implementing rate and occupancy strategies, and driving brand performance and identity, partnerships and commercial affiliations.

Centrally located opposite the International Convention Centre, the much anticipated 590-room Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour was the first new-build international luxury hotel to open in Sydney’s CBD in more than 15 years.

It has played a major role in the ongoing revitalisation of the city’s vibrant Darling Harbour precinct and has performed ahead of all expectations cementing a leading position in the exciting Sydney accommodation market.
