Spain, a world leader in tourism, has invested in multiple sustainability plans and is preparing to welcome tourists with a dedicated ‘Travelsafe’ website.

Ms Elisa Robles Fraga, Director, Tourism Office of Spain in India, said, while addressing Indian press through a virtual conference on Tuesday: “Spanish Government has initiated sustainability plans with investment in 25 destinations and 14 autonomous communities. We’re aiming at a long term (2030) strategy for recovery and growth of tourist attractions in Urban establishments as well as Rural areas closer to nature, offering tranquility and caring for the environment.”

Preservation of natural and cultural values, social benefit to re-populate rural areas, permanent adaptation to enable the sector to respond to the new environment of constant changes are the focus points of the sustainability strategy that has a dedicated website-Reactivatur.

Ms Elisa reiterated on the country’s top attractions like heritage and culture, good weather, rich gastronomy, diverse landscapes, music and dance festivals and friendly people. She highlighted on Spain’s infrastructural development with 50 airports, largest highway in European Union, extensive high-speed rail setwork and 46 ports. Spain received 83 million tourists in 2019. 210,000 among them were from India.

Abhishek Agrawal, Regional Head, Asia, BLS international Services, said: “Currently tourists visas are not available for Indian travelers to Spain. Visas for those going on business, to meet family or to visit a trade event are granted based on case-to-case basis.” BLS is a visa service provider for Spain in India.

There are no direct flights from India to Spain and currently bubble flights operated by British Airways, Lufthansa and KLM connect India to Spain.

Elisa said: “We have sufficient quarantine measures in place with 21 specific tourism protocol guides. All international health and safety standards are adhered to. Hope nightmare will passover soon. We’re ready to welcome tourists again and Spain Tourism’s dedicated TravelSafe website has all the relevant health information visitors.”
