On Friday, 21 May 2021, over 300 Sydney corporates will come together at Easts Rugby Club (Bellevue Hill), for the first ever, Sydney Corporate Touch event. An event with purpose, this unique concept is being brought to life by the team at Spirit Sport + Events, with the aim to raise much needed funds and awareness for the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development Team (LMRDT). Instilling a positive change in Indigenous communities, the funds raised will help introduce and encourage community sports, which is proven to have a positive impact on youths.1

Glen Ella, former Wallaby and Co-Founder of Spirit Sport + Events, says “The Lloydies [LMRDT] are an organisation that I have been involved with for years. It’s great to now be able to support them on another level through this new event that we have created. It’s also exciting to see the support the corporate world has given the event, particularly in its first year. The LMRDT programs are based on the positive impact that the sport of Rugby has on Indigenous youths, and it’s an area I’m extremely passionate about. We need to create more opportunities for Indigenous kids, and I want to see more Indigenous boys and girls playing Rugby, progressing in the code and representing Australia.”

The event is also being supported by some of Australia’s best known Indigenous athletes including former dual-code international representative Timana Tahu, and Australia Women’s Sevens players Taleena Simon, Rhiannon Byers and Mahalia Murphy, who will be joining corporate teams as guest players throughout the day.

Taleena Simon, Sydney Corporate Touch Event Ambassador, says “I’m so grateful for programs like the Lloydies, it gives our First Nations people the opportunity to showcase their talent and reach higher levels within the game. Without the Lloydies I wouldn’t have achieved what I have in my sporting career and I’m so thankful that I got to be a part of such an amazing program.”

EY and Foxtel Media have come on board as foundation event sponsors and organisations such as Afterpay, J.P. Morgan and Moelis Australia are also entering teams.

With a festival like atmosphere, this is a corporate event like no other. There will be a postmatch after party, with the promotion of health and fitness throughout the day, team building and networking opportunities, all the while raising funds for LMRDT.

Only two corporate team places remain for this year’s event. To register a team, please visit
