Statement by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board on current reporting:

March 19, 2019 Airport No Comments Email Email

The results of the German Institute for Efficiency Audit (DIEP) evaluating the Supervisory Board were presented by the Head of the Institute, Professor Peter Ruhwedel, at the Supervisory Board meeting on 8 March 2019. The Supervisory Board decided to evaluate the results at a Supervisory Board meeting in May.

The presentation of this documentation on the evaluation of the work undertaken by the FBB’s Supervisory Board in today’s issue of Berliner Morgenpost does not in any way reflect reality or the assessment of the vast majority of the members on the Supervisory Board.

In particular, the Supervisory Board stands unreservedly by the Chairman of the Management Board despite the criticism. We are still convinced that Engelbert Lütke Daldrup is the right man to lead the company in order to master an extremely difficult legacy and successfully launch BER.

As Chairman of the Supervisory Board, I am concerned with the fact that we, as a body, reflect on our work self-critically in order to become better together. The result is a differentiated, wide range of individual opinions, some of which have different approaches in terms of their objectives or analysis.

Nothing else was to be expected taking into account the very mixed composition of the Supervisory Board with equal representation and three shareholders. In my opinion, attributing individual opinions to the Supervisory Board as a whole goes beyond the limits of serious reporting.

I have no problem with the statements of the evaluation as a whole, but I do not personally share all the opinions. Now we will need to continue on the path we have chosen, namely to reflect self-critically in the Supervisory Board by holding objective and differentiated discussions and to strengthen the collaboration even further in a spirit of trust. I am sure that we will succeed in this together with the Management Board despite external interferences.

PS: Michael Müller, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, has not been on the Supervisory Board for two years now.

Rainer Bretschneider, Chairman of the Supervisory Board Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH
