As we start to see more movement across our states here in Australia, many of us are eagerly waiting for restrictions put in place on interstate travel to ease, so that we can get out and explore our very own backyard.

Tasmania has always been a hot destination for local travellers, with this fascinating state offering so much to do and see. Launceston however, is undoubtedly a stand out and typically a popular choice for visitors, due to it being a hub for fantastic food and wine, and filled with plenty of history and old world charm to explore.
Although borders are not open to visitors just yet, Launceston is starting to make positive steps forward, with StayWell Holdings excited to be re-opening their Leisure Inn Penny Royal site in the city from tomorrow (1 July, 2020) after being closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. For those looking to start planning their next trip, below is guide for rediscovering the stunning city of Launceston and its surroundings:

  • Get out outdoors and explore: after being cooped up inside during isolation, why not get outside and explore all that’s on offer both in and around Launceston. The Cataract Gorge is one of the area’s top attractions and within walking distance from the Leisure Inn Penny Royal, so why not take advantage of exploring this natural playground, and enjoy the walking trails, and attractions that surround it. How about getting lost in a sea of purple at the Bridestow Lavender Estate, and take in one of the region’s most breathtaking sights? Or, if you’re up for a drive, you can travel just 2-hours from Launceston to one of the states best kept secrets, the Little Blue Lake, which is located in the northeast region of Tasmania and is truly breathtaking.
  • Enjoy local attractions: spend the day enjoying the local Tasmania Zoo, or visit the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. Get back outside and the fresh air at the many local parks within the area, and in particular the Launceston City Park, where you can roam the beautiful, historic grounds.
