Ninja, samurai, ancient kingdoms, indigenous Ainu culture, manga, crafts and Japanese gardens are just some of the aspects of Japan’s rich culture that inspired art installations now on show at seven airports and a cruise terminal in Japan. As global travel remains restricted, the exhibition website provides a rich variety of information, videos and images so that people around the world can learn about Japan from home and plan trips for the future.
The Covid-19 pandemic has made it difficult to meet new people and experience new cultures in person. CULTURE GATE to JAPAN sees 29 artists and creators working in arts, entertainment, animation and manga, producing artworks inspired by the histories and charms of destinations around Japan. The exhibition has been launched by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan, with the hope of continuing to provide people around the world with the same sense of wonder and joy felt when encountering a new culture.
