Families and people of all ages can immerse themselves in nature at Sydney’s newest national park on a Sensory Walk on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

Boasting walking and bike tracks, rock pools, waterfalls and several ancient Aboriginal sites, Dharawal National Park was declared in 2012 and is located near Campbelltown in the Macarthur region.

With the summer holidays providing the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, the Sensory Walk allows guests to taste bush foods, touch and smell the diverse native vegetation and hear the sounds of the bush. Guided by a Dharawal National Park Ranger, the inclusive tour aims to help visitors learn about the park using all five senses.

The tour traverses the O’Hare’s Creek Lookout track which is 2.8 kilometres return. The walk is all-inclusive, meaning it caters for a range of ages and abilities, including guests in prams, wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

In addition to the new sensory walks, Dharawal National Park also offers guided, indigenous walking tours on the second Saturday of every month between February and November, with 9am walks being accessible to everyone, and the 11.30am walks taking the more challenging trail to Minerva Pool.

Bookings are essential and they continue in all safe weather conditions including wet weather. Participants are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat and bring a bottle of water.

Featuring natural attractions such as Dharawal National Park and the Australian Botanic Garden Mt Annan, as well as historic houses, country markets, eateries and art galleries, the Macarthur region is just one hour from Sydney’s CBD, making it an excellent destination for a weekend or day trip in the summer school holidays.
