The Australian arm of US proptech giant Delos is importing next generation air purification units to Australia that can filter and remove COVID-19 particles and reduce the viral load within hotel rooms where infected travellers are quarantining.The science-backed air purification units are portable, stand-alone and can be set up within minutes to offer medical-grade protection against airborne particles, including viruses and bacteria.
Delos has already installed 100,000 of the same air purification units in more than 10,000 New York City public schools and wants to speak to government departments in Australia regarding similar applications.
The air purification units reduce the chance of infection by capturing ultrafine particles. They also trap and use Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) to stop micro-organisms from reproducing, and physically remove and deactivate viruses from the air.
Research and independent third-party testing has shown that the units perform at similar standards of purification systems utilised in surgical and health care settings1, while the University of Buffalo found an efficacy rate of 99.99% in removing particles sized 0.07 microns and greater (SARS-Cov-2 particles range in size from 0.06 and 0.14 microns)2

Delos Australia President Bill Giannikos said the air purifiers could be used in hotel quarantine to reduce potential viral load within rooms where returned travellers are quarantining, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19, thereby limiting the risk of the virus infecting workers and return travellers.
“Air purification systems are considered by many to be a critical supplementary approach to reducing transmission rates by remediating airborne pollutants and contaminants. The ‘Delos powered by Healthway’ air purification units capture ultrafine particles and can reduce particles that carry airborne bacteria and viruses.
“Traditional filters for mechanical HVAC solutions do not efficiently filter air particles as small as SARS-CoV-2 (0.06 to 0.14 microns) in occupied spaces, where it matters most. The ‘Delos powered by Healthway’ air purification units are portable, standalone units with technology that filters particles as small as .007 microns, at 99.97% efficiency.”
For more than ten years Delos has fostered research partnerships with leading medical institutions, including a collaboration with Mayo Clinic to create the Well Living Lab, the first human-centered research facility dedicated to researching the indoor environment’s impact on human health. As part of this, Delos has evaluated nearly 600 products against its evaluation criteria across 60 product types.
