The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) has developed a comprehensive support program to help tourism businesses navigate confidently through the COVID environment.Focused on business requirements that develop practical, sector specific tools, the program overlays a comprehensive, customer journey experience so businesses can minimise COVID related risks for their visitors.

Responding to strong demand for clarity from industry members, ATEC’s ‘COVID READY’ program will help businesses tailor the National Covid-19 Coordination Commission’s planning tool to their situation.

‘COVID READY’ will navigate the official Federal Government COVID guidance specifically for use in tourism businesses and, rather than being a staff training tool, will help businesses develop  a pragmatic, individual plan that is grounded in industry operational needs.

Rick Stone from emergency planning and business resilience consultancy Tigertail Australia, who has helped guide the program, says business owners are constantly facing change.

“One of the challenges is to make sense of the change and adapt. The pandemic brings new risks that are outside most people’s experience. COVID brings risks to staff, guests and reputation. The good news is you can minimise all these risks with a bit of creative thinking.”

Managing Director Fastrak Asian Solutions and Chair Destination Southern NSW Richard Beere, who will join Rick in the first webinar this Thursday says the program will help businesses to mitigate their risk and confidently apply the national framework.

“We will be presenting options for tourism businesses within the COVID guideline structures and using real examples of how to do this,” Richard says.

“While there is a lot of great information, it is not always easy to navigate and even more difficult to know how to apply it in small, regional tourism businesses.”

ATEC has established industry reference groups for each sector including transport, accommodation, attractions, food and beverage and tour operators. The reference groups provide a tailored industry overlay to the real life application of each COVID-safe consideration and have fed into the development of sector specific tools.

Thursday’s moderated webinar session will hear from Exceptional Kangaroo Island’s Craig Wickham who will present some of the real world examples he has seen in businesses, along with analysis from Rick and industry guidance by Richard.

Following the webinar participants will be able to register for one of our upcoming sector specific webinars.
