Business Events Cairns and Great Barrier Reef are today celebrating a successful Sell TNQ, their annual event that sees event buyers from across the country converge in Cairns and Port Douglas to learn why they should sell this iconic destination.

According to Rosie Douglas, General Manager of Business Events Cairns and Great Barrier Reef, the event is more popular than ever since its inception in 1999

“We have seen a huge response to this years’ Sell TNQ event with 90 applications being submitted for the 30 buyer positions. The buyers were selected from across Australia to meet with, and experience, 30 member products that excel in hosting business events.

“The success of the program comes as Cairns welcomes new infrastructure in the region including three new Crystalbrook Collection properties, an upgrade to both Shangri-La The Marina Cairns and Novotel Oasis Resort following an AUD 1 million refurbishment,” said Douglas.

An AUD 176 million upgrade and extension of the Cairns Convention Centre will also commence in June 2020. The work will include a refurbishment of existing facilities and an expansion providing an additional 3,000 square metres of meeting, banquet and exhibition space. The refurbishment will be completed by November 2020 and the expansion by 2021/2022 allowing multiple events to be run simultaneously.

During the event, buyers from around Australia were greeted by industry and locals as they underwent a range of activities including welcome drinks at AJ Hackett Cairns and site visits across a range of hotels including the newly refurbished Novotel Cairns Oasis where groups took part in an ‘amazing race’ style competition. The second day gave buyers the opportunity to speed network with local products and educational visits to the Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas and Daintree Rainforest.
