The Arts Café To Welcome Heywood Hill-Curated Selection Of Australian Literature For Arrival Of Silver Muse

Luxury cruise innovator, Silversea has revealed that Silver Muse, its newest flagship, will showcase a special selection of Australian literature through its partnership with leading London-based bookshop, Heywood Hill.  The Australian collection will be added to the bespoke library – situated within the Arts Café aboard Silver Muse – prior to the vessel’s inaugural sailing to Australia in December 2018.

Nestled cosily on deck eight, the Arts Café allows guests to unwind with a book in stylish, comfortable and peaceful surrounds.  A wide selection of books featuring Australia and Asia will join the collection, including 28 reference travel guides on Australia and Asia and large format illustrated pictorial titles, which focus on the Australian landscape, art and culture.

The new collection of books will include both new and out-of-print titles.  Guests will be able to choose from such titles as, ‘Commonwealth of Thieves’ by Thomas Keneally, ‘Fatal Shore’ by Robert Hughes, ‘Australia: A Biography of a Nation’ by Philip Knightley, ‘The Songlines’ by Bruce Chatwin, ‘The Explorers’ by Tim Flannery, and ‘The Dig Tree’ by Sarah Murgatroyd.

Over Heywood Hill’s illustrious 80-year history, the London-based bookshop has become renowned for curating collections of new, old and antiquarian books for private libraries.  Marked by old-fashioned courtesy and humour, Heywood Hill has been awarded the Royal Warrant by Her Majesty the Queen, among other accolades.  As part of the partnership, Heywood Hill also selects books to enrich a selection of Silver Muse’s top suites.

Hosting a varied and constantly changing succession of exhibitions, the Arts Café showcases paintings and sculptures from a range of artists from around the world.  A place for relaxation and inspiration by day, and a lively lounge in the evening, the distinctively designed Arts Café allows guests to enjoy a bite to eat or a drink, with a café and deli-bar offering daytime cuisine and mouth-watering cocktails as the sun sets. The Arts Café is one of several public spaces on Silver Muse; in addition to venues that offer informal cuisine, the ultra-luxurious ship offers guests eight different restaurants – each with a distinct dining concept.

Barbara Muckermann, Chief Marketing Officer at Silversea Cruises, said,

“Like Silversea, the Heywood Hill brand stands for quality, expertise, and personalisation, so we are thrilled to have them curate Silver Muse’s collection of books.  We are delighted to provide our guests with a range of Australian literature to celebrate Silver Muse’s inaugural sailing to the region.  As a brand, we invite our guests to travel deeper and we hope that this wonderful selection of books allows our guests to immerse themselves fully in each destination.”

“It has been fascinating to choose a really stimulating selection of books for the discerning guests of Silversea,” says Nicky Dunne, Chairman of Heywood Hill. “Much like our own clientele, readers aboard Silversea’s ships appreciate the sense of quality that characterises our service.”

During her maiden voyage to Australia and New Zealand, Silver Muse will transport guests through remote, untouched regions of pure beauty, on itineraries punctuated by vibrant cities and tranquil days at sea.

Silver Muse will make her inaugural sailing to Australia from Bali on 21st December 2018, arriving into Darwin on 26th December 2018 and Sydney on 6th January 2019.  Silver Muse will arrive in Auckland on the 19th January 2019 for her inaugural visit and will then offer a number of sailings between Australia and New Zealand.  In February 2019, Silver Muse departs on her Grand Asia Pacific Voyage (Sydney to Tokyo – 74 days).  Silver Muse will return in 2019/20 and stay for over four months (late November to end of March).
