As part of the ongoing Chef Series, a quintessential signature experience at The Datai Langkawi, the resort will proudly welcome London born Chef Nelly Robinson from 30 August- 1 September 2019, inviting guests to experience and indulge in his culinary excellence in the heart of the Malaysian rainforest. The chef series, which has welcomed culinary luminaries including the legendary Michel and Sébastien Bras, invites Michelin-starred chefs from around the globe to showcase their extraordinary skill and talent to guests staying at the resort.

Nelly began his career at the tender age of 14 at Michelin-starred restaurant Northcote Manor in England, where he trained under Chef Patron, Nigel Hawoth.   He went on to open his first restaurant, nelin Australia, pioneering a globally-inspired culinary scene in Sydney that is widely celebrated for its unique dining experience. nel. was voted best restaurant in Australia by Timeout Magazine and named #1 best restaurant in Australia by Tripadvisor in 2016. Notably, Nelly was previously nominated for the Gault Millau Chef of the Year award back in 2016 and again in 2017.

Over the course of three days, Nelly will be introducing his gastronomic flair known for stirring excitement with food to those staying at resort. Committed to providing each and every guest with an unforgettable experience, Nelly and his team will create an unusual menu based on childhood memories and fairytales. The magical surroundings of The Datai Langkawi will provide abundant inspiration for an unexpected and exciting journey of the senses packed with storytelling, big on flavour, and delivered with integrity and passion.  Just as in the lush, tropical landscape of Datai Bay, not everything is always as it first seems on these plates, with joyous surprises and twists at every turn.

The three day program will kick off with a five-course meal at the resort’s beautiful indoor/outdoor The Dining Room venue overlooking the main pool.  Spectacular views of the breathtaking rainforest canopy provide the perfect backdrop to a showcase of the exceptional natural produce and spices offered by the unique, stunning location of The Datai Langkawi. Day two welcomes Chef Nelly to the much-loved The Beach Bar where he’ll be delivering a complimentary cooking demonstration in a laid back setting, before ending his series by inviting guests to take part in a cooking class followed by lunch held at the resort’s cooking school called The Dapur (Malay for ‘kitchen’).  Here, guests can enjoy a unique hands-on gastronomic experience creating then enjoying their very own culinary delights.

As part of this series in partnership with Sidewood Wines each dining experience will give guests the option to wine-pair from the largest eco-sustainable winery in the Adelaide Hills. Founded in 2004, Sidewood Wines was born out of the vision and passion of owners Owen and Cassandra Inglis for creating beautifully balanced, elegant, award-winning wines accredited with Five Red Star from prolific Australian wine critic James Halliday.

Following the resort’s recent refurbishment, every aspect of the guest experience has been reimaged and reassessed with its focus on sustainability bolstered further.  The brainchild of General Manager Arnaud Girdon, the Chef Series will bring celebrated chefs from around the globe to the heart of the Malaysian rainforest.  By celebrating the very best in hospitality and gastronomy, the series will play a key role in cementing the position of The Datai Langkawi as one of the leading luxury resorts in Asia.
