The Como Melbourne, MGallery by Sofitel opens global dining phenomenon ‘Dans le Noir ?’ on Friday 19 January 2018

Following its global success with more than 1.5 million visitors from Paris to Auckland, through London, Madrid, Barcelona and St Petersburg Dans le Noir ? (French translation for “In the Dark?”) will open its first official ‘Dining in the Dark’ restaurant concept in Australia at The Como Melbourne, MGallery by Sofitel on Friday 19  January 2018.

This one-of-a-kind experience invites guests to embark on a unique sensory, social and human experience. Each diner will be guided through their mystery three course menu, designed by The Como Melbourne Executive Chef, Dinesh Munirathinam, in pitch darkness. Through limiting the sense of sight there are no preconceptions brought about by vision; instead other senses are intensified allowing guests to completely re-evaluate their perception of taste and smell.

In a unique role reversal, all Dans le Noir ? staff members hired to guide guests through the experience are themselves visually impaired. It’s under their guidance that patrons will become acclimatised to their environment and learn to listen to their secondary sensors.

Dans le Noir ? founder Edouard de Broglie, says the concept is a new way to experience food. But more than just a sensory shift, it’s designed to provoke a thoughtful response.

“Our goal is that people go out with a question in their head – a question about the taste, a question about the way they relate with other people, a question about disability and employment” said Edouard de Broglie.

This innovative project helps to highlight the many non-for-profit organisations that support people who are blind or have low vision in their everyday lives. Vision Australia, the country’s largest not-for-profit provider of services for the blind and low vision community, along with SensWide and Blind Sports Victoria, will work in partnership with Dans le Noir ? and The Como Melbourne to help hire all blind or low vision employees, enabling them to successfully fulfil their new positions as official Dans le Noir ? hosts.

“We are honoured to be the chosen venue for Dans le Noir’s Australian debut. Championing diversity in the workplace is something very close to our hearts and we look forward to working with Dans le Noir ? to bring this inspired experience to life,” said John Korkou, Director of Sales and Marketing, The Como Melbourne.

The Dans le Noir ? dining experience will be available for dinner Thursday to Sundays.  Guests can choose between the following three surprise menu options; Chef Munirathinam’s signature Feed Me Menu, Fishermans Cove Seafood Menu or Seasoned Vegan Menu (additional dietary requirements can be accommodated with notice) from $95 per person, or $125 with wine pairing.
To book visit or contact or +61 3 9825 2228.

The Dans le Noir ? restaurant is also available for corporate, private and special event bookings on request. For enquiries please call 0437 939 939.
