The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and a number of its local partners will showcase the emirate’s outstanding attractions to travel industry stakeholders from around the world at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2019, which is taking place in London from 4th to the 6th November.

During its participation in the UK capital, DCT Abu Dhabi will promote the emirate’s diverse portfolio of world-class cultural offerings, such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, Qasr Al Hosn and Qasr Al Watan, and exceptional tourist attractions, including luxurious hotels, culinary outlets and thrilling entertainment venues such as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. The latest tourism and cultural developments will also be shared with both the trade and media alike across three days of meetings and networking events.

Ali Hassan Al Shaiba, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Our participation in WTM this year follows several significant achievements by Abu Dhabi within the tourism sector. We have seen over 2.9 million guests stay at the capital’s hotels between January and July 2019, a success we attribute to the emirate’s robust portfolio of diverse attractions and the strides Abu Dhabi has recently made within the business and entertainment sectors. WTM’s global significance enables us to connect with other destinations around the world in order to cultivate strong relationships and entice tourists in these markets to visit Abu Dhabi and enjoy the exceptional attractions our city provides.”

Abu Dhabi continues to be one of the world’s fastest-growing travel destinations and the UK market continues to be of great importance. The UK is currently the third largest overseas market and largest European source market for the emirate. The Emirate has also been engaged in growing tourism across GCC and UAE markets with the introduction of a variety of new attractions and properties.

This year saw the establishment of the first Abu Dhabi Showdown Week through a five-year partnership between DCT Abu Dhabi and the UFC, which is set to bring the world’s top fighters to the emirate every year until 2024 This event was followed by the first edition of Abu Dhabi Family Week, a premium family entertainment platform that included the first Middle East edition of the globally acclaimed Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Now, as the capital prepares to host the 11th edition of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, more attractions are expected to be announced by DCT Abu Dhabi soon.

At WTM, DCT Abu Dhabi will be promoting the Abu Dhabi Calendar application, which launched its latest version with a revamped interface and design in October. The app acts as a guide for events in Abu Dhabi which enables users to browse, organise and even book tickets to events with ease. Abu Dhabi Calendar is available for download from the iOS and Android app stores and can be accessed through web browsers on https://visitabudhabi.ae/en/see.and.do/leisure/events.aspx.

WTM is the leading travel industry exhibition in the UK. In 2018, the event included more than 5,000 exhibitors and generated over 14 billion AED of contracts. This year, DCT Abu Dhabi will be joined at WTM by several of its key partners, including Etihad Airways, Experience Hub, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Qasr Al Watan, Qasr Al Hosn, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts, Park Hyatt, The Ritz Carlton, Rotana Hotels and Resorts, The Westin Abu Dhabi and Yas Marina Circuit.
