Mobile data revenue will grow from $0.6bn in 2018 to $1.1bn in 2023. This is because of growing smartphone penetration, supported by 3G and 4G coverage expansions. The growth in mobile data revenue will be bolstered by increasing mobile data ARPU and increased usage of data-intensive applications, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Jonathan Bachrach, Senior Technology Analyst at GlobalData comments, “A growing number of people in Ghana are using their devices to access the internet. This growth will be supported by the increasing smartphone penetration and steady expansion of mobile telephone services in rural areas.

The chart above indicates how smartphones subscriptions will overtake the number of feature phone subscriptions in Ghana during 2018-2019.

The relatively strong growth in smartphones will support the increased data usage as consumers will have access to a number of data-intensive applications such as social media and video apps.
