Historic Royal Palaces is pleased to confirm that Florimania will be returning for its 22nd year at Hampton Court Palace for Mothering Sunday weekend, 20-22 March 2020. Included in palace admission, this event will add value to group organisers, special interest groups and tour operator’s visits to the palace.
Once again, the sumptuous interiors of Henry VIII’s pleasure palace will be filled with vibrant floral displays and the sweet smells of spring.
The focus for 2020 will be on Heraldry, and the interpretation of the ancient works through flower arrangements. Inspiration will be taken from well-known literary works on the subject in addition to artwork where Heraldry features heavily, including the famous “The Family of Henry VIII” portrait (ca. 1545).
Did you know – Heraldry started in England in the later 1100’s. At this time Knights began to wear helmets which covered their faces and so painted unique combinations of colours, shapes and animals for identification in battles and tournaments. This technique became known as an individual’s “arms”.
Returning next year will be the experts from the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies who will be giving live demonstrations on flower arranging and providing extra information for visitors. For “budding” artists, members of Florilegium will also be holding demonstrations on botanical painting.
After being delighted by the stunning flower arrangements indoors, visitors will be able to explore the palace’s world-famous grounds including the 60 acres of picturesque formal gardens and 750 acres of parkland following the path of the river Thames.
Florimania will be included in admission to Hampton Court Palace. Bookings and tickets will be on sale January 2020.
