As we continue to keep the safety of our customers and employees at the center of everything that we do, we are taking additional steps to promote social distancing in the air and on the ground for an even safer journey. By the end of April, we expect to implement additional, temporary changes to our policies on all United and United Express flights for seating throughout the entire aircraft as well as adjust the boarding process. We expect to keep these measures in place through May 31, and will continue to evaluate how to best proceed given the fluidity of the current situation.

The new changes include:

  • Restricting advanced seat selection for adjacent seats in all cabins, including middle seats where available and alternating window and aisle seats when seats are in pairs. For travel agencies, these seats will show as assigned.
  • Boarding fewer customers at a time to allow for more distance during the boarding process.
  • Maintaining existing boarding groups and priority boarding, but metering customer boarding to minimize crowding in the gate area and on the jet bridge.
  • Processing Complimentary Premier Upgrades at the departure gate in priority order.

Customers who prefer to be seated together or have additional questions may contact us for reseating options. As always, we will continue to follow CDC guidance and closely monitor this evolving situation. Click below for additional ways we’re ensuring your safety from before takeoff to after landing.
