The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has awarded The Maldives a ‘Safe Travels Stamp’ as a result of the island nation’s strict health and safety measures implemented to safely restart the local tourism industry.

The WTTC set out to standardise safe travel by developing new global standards that would help travellers recognise the businesses and destinations following best practices. For a destination to receive a Safe Travels Stamp, it must ensure that its safety guidelines align with the WTTC’s core requirements.

Endorsed by The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and more than 200 global travel organisations, it is the world’s first ever global safety and hygiene stamp designed to address COVID-19 and similar outbreaks within the travel and tourism industry.
