The Shangri-La Group is pleased to appoint Mr Jürgen Dörr as the area vice president – operations (Hong Kong and Taiwan) and general manager of Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong on 5 August 2019. In his new capacity, Mr Dörr oversees the operations of five properties in Hong Kong, including Kowloon Shangri-La, Island Shangri-La, Kerry Hotel, Hotel Jen and The Aberdeen Marina Club, as well as two hotels in Taiwan – Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei and Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan, managing over 3,500 employees, 42 food and beverage outlets and 70 function rooms.

Prior to this appointment, Mr Dörr was general manager of Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Sultanate of Oman, a luxury five-star resort complex comprising three hotels since 2016.

A German native, Mr Dörr is a well-versed hotelier with almost three decades’ work experience in the hotel industry. He joined the Shangri-La Group in 1999, assuming the position of director of food and beverage at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, Kota Kinabalu in Indonesia. In the following 10 years, he moved across other Shangri-La properties in major South East Asian destinations, including Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei, Mactan and Jakarta. This is his fifth general-manager post within the Shangri-La Group.

Mr Dörr was a nominee for ‘2018’s Most Influential Leaders in the Middle East and North Africa and Asia Market’ at the MENAA Awards and received the Prudent Financial Management Silver Award in 2018 and the Shangri La Regional Award in 2017.

At Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong, Mr Dörr manages nearly 800 employees. He is also in charge of the hotel’s 688 guestrooms, seven food and beverage outlets, 24-hour in-room dining, 15 function rooms, including a pillar-free Grand Ballroom that caters to up to 700 people, and all other facilities that meet the business and leisure needs of international travellers.

Avid in cycling and jogging, Mr Dörr grew up in southwest Germany and is a devoted husband and now a father of two children.
