The Warehouse Hotel, with interiors by acclaimed local cross-disciplinary design firm, Asylum, received the prestigious ‘Design of the Year’ at the President’s Design Award (PDA) 2018, held last night.

Established in 2006, the PDA is Singapore’s highest honour for designers and designs across all disciplines. It recognises “the achievements of an extraordinary group of people making a difference to the lives of Singaporeans and the global community through excellent design.”

Since its previous edition in 2016, the biennial awards now place greater emphasis on the impact of design in enabling economic transformation; raising the quality of life; advancing Singapore brand, culture and connecting communities; and making ground-breaking achievements in the field of design.

Wee Teng Wen, Managing Partner of The Lo & Behold Group, The Warehouse Hotel’s management company, says, “We have always been great admirers of Chris and his team at Asylum and could not have found greater partners to open our first hotel. They had the uphill task of working with an iconic conservation building that had a distinctive history. With the design we wanted to pay tribute to the building’s past while retaining a strong sense of modernity, all underscored by a strong Singaporean identity. Asylum managed to do exactly that.”

Located in a 120-year old building on Robertson Quay, The Warehouse Hotel is a 37-room boutique hotel reminiscent of Singapore’s vices and trading secrets during the olden days, finished with modern and luxurious touches. The hotel opened in January 2017 and has been a recipient of a range of local and international accolades, most recently the ‘Best Hotel Experience’ and the Singapore Tourism Awards 2018.

The Warehouse Hotel is the inaugural hotel of renowned Singaporean hospitality firm, The Lo & Behold Group. It is owned by I Hotel and is part of Design Hotels™.

The PDA is conferred by the President of the Republic of Singapore and is jointly administered by the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
