Tourism Whitsundays has today launched it’s ‘Escape Winter’ campaign targeted at encouraging our southern friends to come and experience a tropical winter escape in The Whitsundays, in the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said boosting intrastate tourism was crucial to the region’s economic recovery.

“The Whitsundays is one of the most beautiful places in the world to visit,” she said.

“We’re encouraging Queenslanders to get out and support local tourism businesses that have done it tough.

“We know that thousands of Queenslanders dream of a holiday in The Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef.

“There’s nowhere better to be during winter than the Whitsundays.

“We’ll continue to work with Tash and her team at Tourism Whitsundays to encourage Queenslanders to support local businesses.”

Tourism Whitsunday Chief Executive Officer Tash Wheeler believes this is a very exciting day in The Whitsundays road to recovery.

“The launch of our ‘Escape Winter’ campaign coupled with the announcements on direct flights from Brisbane through Alliance Airlines is a huge win for our tourism industry.

“The Whitsundays is one of the most tourism reliant regions in Queensland, encouraging visitors back to our region is vital for our local economy.

“Intrastate travel accounts for 40% of visitation to the region; this is an important step in reigniting our economy, getting boats back out on the water, heads on pillows and members of our community re-employed.”

“There is no better time for Queenslanders to get out and explore Queensland. We have it all to ourselves right now, with these incredible deals, there is no excuse not to book,” she said.

There are over 60 unbelievable offers available across accommodation, experiences, restaurants and retail. The Whitsundays tourism industry has put the very best deals out for Queenslanders to snap up.

Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said it was fantastic that the tourism industry had quickly kicked back into action and the region was open for business.

“The fact our Whitsunday tourism stakeholders have mobilised so quickly after the easing of travel restrictions has been a testament to their resilience.

“It’s exciting the industry has come together to offer Queenslanders the very best winter deals in the wonderful Whitsundays, the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

“This pandemic has been a challenge for our local tourism industry and our community, and it is vital we all pull together to support this campaign and put us on the road to recovery.”

“Our industry has come together to offer Queenslanders the very best deals in the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef; I can’t think of any more Queenslander than that.

“This pandemic has been a challenge for our local tourism industry and subsequently our community, I believe this campaign will have us on the road to recovery.
