Whatever happened to in-flight decorum? Footage (or perhaps feetage) posted online shows a man persistently, carefully and comprehensively picking his toenails during an international flight.

The public toenail picking took place on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi. A fellow passenger was so disgusted at the sight of a toenail picker flicking matter onto the floor that they filmed the episode.

London’s Sun placed the footage online, and various other publications have written about it in tones of horror or mirth.

Passengers aboard a Boeing Stratocruiser in 1950, in their best clothes for the flight. No public toenail pickers among this lot!

The Sun said Jade Thomas and her boyfriend Trong Nguyen were aboard the AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi on Sunday afternoon when confronted by the shoeless and sockless man repeatedly picking his dirty feet.

Ironically, the man is wearing a surgical mask, indicating a concern for public health.

Revolting in-flight behaviour may be on the rise but there have always been examples. A couple of decades ago on a flight from the Middle East, a passenger removed his grimy, stinky socks and draped them over the back of his seat. The horrid socks dangled down in front of the hapless passenger behind, just as meal service began.
