Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH and ZECH Bau GmbH celebrated the completion of the building shell of Terminal 2 at BER with the topping out ceremony on July 30th. T2 is designed for 6 million passengers per year and will serve as a terminal for arrivals and departures. It will provide everything from check-in, baggage drop-off and claim to security controls and service facilities through to retail and gastronomy. Access to the aircraft takes place in the Pier Nord departure lounges, which is connected to Terminal T2 via two bridges. The building is due to open in October 2020 when BER goes into operation.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “The topping out ceremony marks an important first milestone for Terminal T2. It is now crucial that the conditions for the installation of the baggage handling system are accomplished by autumn. When T2 starts operations, we will be increasing the capacity at BER to between 28 to 30 million passengers. Together with Schönefeld Airport, which will become a part of Berlin Brandenburg Airport next year as Terminal 5, more than 40 million passengers will be able to be handled at this location every year. My thanks go to all of the companies, construction workers and authorities involved as well as our employees”.

Terminal T2 will be located directly in front of Pier Nord and will offer an area of 240 x 40 metres with a height of approximately 15 metres, a total area of approximately 23,000 square metres. It will have a yearly capacity for six million passengers and will increase the capacity of BER to between 28 to 30 million passengers in the first stage of expansion. Together with Schönefeld Airport, which will be in operation until the end of 2025 (and will later become BER Terminal T5), over 40 million passengers will be able to be handled per year at this airport location from 2020.
