Tourism Training Australia (TTA) was established in 1982 to develop a flexible and effective training system for the tourism and hospitality industry and was led for many years by industry stalwart, the late, great Bill Galvin OAM.Chairman, John Hart, said that “Julian has been appointed to lead the organisation and ensure the TTA is a powerful voice on travel, tourism and hospitality training.”

Mr Harniman was previously Head of Government Relations and Communications at Restaurant & Catering and has also worked for the both the Caravan Industry Association of Australia and as an adviser to a Shadow Federal Minister For Tourism and Regional Development.

Mr Hart said in those roles Julian had demonstrated the “relationship building and communication skills needed to bring together all stakeholders to support the continued progress of training in the tourism, hospitality and travel industries.”

“While recent events were leading to significant challenges, the travel, tourism and hospitality sector had always been resilient while outpacing many others in terms of employment growth.”

“The Board looks forward to working with Julian to continue TTA’s work with travel, tourism
and hospitality training providers including its Skills Summit, Training Awards, industry forums
and undertaking professional development programs, or facilitating skills recognition of the
promotion of careers and apprenticeships.”

Julian Harniman said he was delighted to be working in the dynamic travel, tourism and
hospitality sector with John Hart and the TTA Board.

“I look forward to ensuring that the collective voice of travel, tourism and hospitality training
providers is heard, understood and supported so they can fulfil their vital role in addressing
the industry’s 40,000 vacant positions.”
