The adventurous, 21-year-old daughter of two travel agents has demonstrated the speed and ease of modern travel by visiting all of the 196 nations of the world – setting a new record for anyone of that age.

Lexie Alford, an American Instagrammer, claims to be the youngest person ever to have accomplished the feat. She has submitted her claim to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Alford visited her 196th country a couple of weeks ago. It was one of the trickier places to enter – North Korea.

The US State Department advises Americans: “Do not travel to North Korea due to the serious risk of arrest and long-term detention of US nationals.”

That didn’t deter Alford, who says she hopes her world travelling record will inspire others to explore.

Both Alford’s parents are travel agents, which filled Alford with a passion for travel and enabled her to visit quite a few out-of-the-way countries as a child, getting her tally started.

According to a profile in Forbes magazine, at the age of 12 Alford set a goal of visiting every country in the world and started saving up to achieve it.

During the past two years, she has spent over seven months travelling alone to about 50 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America, the Caribbean and the South Pacific, she told Fox News.

He travels were “completely self-funded” through photography and blogging, along with some branded deals.

Alford is known as LexieLimitless on Instagram. Her skill as a photographer is apparent. Being young, fit, enthusiastic and physically attractive (hence photogenic) doesn’t hurt either.

Alford’s two favourite countries are a couple that few tourists visit: Venezuela and Pakistan.

She is currently in Indonesia – or that’s where she was yesterday, anyway.
