Travel Bans To Lift

May 5, 2020 Statistics & Trends No Comments Email Email

Restrictions could ease from this Friday according to the Prime Minister who announced last week that Australians have ‘earned an early mark.’

Desperate for reprieve from isolation, Australians will be tuning in for an answer to the question on everyone’s lips: When can we travel again?

After months couped up in their homes, Australians are desperate for a change of scene.

Alexandra Ormerod CEO and co-founder of Luxico – a luxury home hotel service coveted by celebrities like Victoria Beckham – says they’ve seen a 138% increase in travel inquiries on the same time last year.

“People have had more time on their hands than ever before, to meticulously plan their post-isolation escapes. As a result, we’ve seen a huge influx of inquiries into the smallest of details, like how exactly a BBQ in one of our homes works.”

Other trends the luxury accommodation group have spotted include:
• People have time to hunt for the best deals available, so are shopping around rather than revisiting previous stays
• People are researching flexibility plans and reading contracts more closely
• People are optimistic about Summer Travel – with international guests even making inquiries (though flexibility is still a must-have)
• Waiting for a green light. People have done their homework now and have their credit cards waiting to hit book as soon as bans ease

With domestic travel bans to lift long before international, local tourism communities are eagerly anticipating a much-needed boost as they bounce-back from Bushfires and COVID-19 closures.

“There’s never been a better time to plan your next holiday and support local tourism communities while you’re at it,” says Ormerod, who moved quickly to implement flexible booking options.

“Guests won’t lose a deposit with Luxico, and there are incredible discounts and deals everywhere if you can get in early before the rush.”

Luxico CEO Alexandra Ormerod’s Top 3 Travel Predictions Are:

1. Bookings to boom when bans lift
Waiting until the last minute to book a getaway will be like trying to book your typical Easter weekend getaway just days before – everything will be rapidly booking out as soon as travel is permitted. We’ll see a huge influx of weekend, school holiday and summer bookings from domestic travellers, who, frankly, deserve something to look forward to. Guests are expecting this to happen over the next couple of weeks and have their credit cards ready to commit to travel as soon as it does.

2. Local luxe escapes favoured over air travel
People are understandably still wary of air travel and are looking for locations they can drive to. With regions like the Mornington Peninsula and Byron Bay just hours from major cities, people won’t have to drive too far for a holiday. This is also great news for bushfire affected towns with people ready to come with empty eskies once again.

3. Staggered International Travel
When international travel bans begin to ease, we expect this will be a staggered approach. We need to be ready to welcome our New Zealand neighbours who will be the first to be allowed back to Australia. Aussies will also get to hop the channel and explore New Zealand.
