Skyscanner has been analysing Australian Skyscanner searches data for early 2021 (Jan-March) as well as Australian traveller sentiment over the last few weeks and noticed a shift in attitudes and destination preferences. Please see below for some of our interesting findings:

·       Searches made on skyscanner.net.au increased by 21% over the last month (compared to the previous month) revealing that Aussie’s enthusiasm for travel is increasing.*

·       The top 10 destination searches over the past two weeks indicate increased positivity in travel with long haul international destinations in Asia, as well as London and US taking 8 of the top 10 searches**:

“As Australian state border restrictions begin to ease and news of travel bubbles in the Asia Pacific region expected to be announced in the coming weeks, Skyscanner has begun to see a shift in Australians attitudes towards travel, with travellers’ flight searches for early 2021 revealing a desire to explore international destinations again.

“During 2020 we’ve seen global searches and bookings spike immediately following news of corridors opening and we expect to see Aussie travellers react in a similar fashion to any travel news affecting their destinations of choice. The events of the past few months have forced airlines and hotels to take a more flexible approach, coupling amendable bookings with extremely attractive pricing. One of the key global trends our New World of Travel report revealed with airlines offering protected fares and prices remaining competitive, we’re seeing a global shift in a trend for increased interest in flexible bookings.”
