Johnston joins the TRAVLR team following five years at leading global online employment marketplace SEEK, in Senior User Experience Design and Product Management roles.

As Head of Product at TRAVLR, Johnston will work alongside female co-founder Lani te Hennepe to create a world-class travel technology platform that revolutionises the way consumers book and experience travel. TRAVLR is the second successful start-up co-founded by te Hennepe who created The Bali Bible in 2008 with her husband Simon, that now boasts an audience of over two million followers, subscribers and users.

What started as a simple PDF document created by Lani te Hennepe that was circulated with friends with the best travel tips and places to see within Bali is now a successful Aussie travel technology business that collates experiences from thousands of other travellers, letting them make their own Bali Bible and create shareable, personal trips.

Determined to continue to foster female talent in the tech space following a hard-personal journey to the top, Lani te Hennepe says she’s thrilled to have such a talented female join the TRAVLR team.

“We’re all about finding the right people and building a role around them, we knew straight away Aoife was the right fit for the brand, not just because she’s female, far from it – but because she’s such an experienced and esteemed product innovator with a wealth of knowledge,” she says.

“We started The Bali Bible in the “glory days” of organic social media, and despite the recent change in algorithms, we have continued to grow, which we attribute to staying focused on the evolving needs of the brand’s audience and recruiting the right people to continue to help us exceed the expectations of our customers,” says te Hennepe.

“We also know from research that females play a key role in booking online travel and deciding on accommodation and experiences so it’s essential this is understood when creating the user-centred TRAVLR platform,” says te Hennepe.

Thrilled to be joining the TRAVLR team, Johnston says co-founder Lani te Hennepe is at the forefront of promoting diversity.

“Lani from her own experience recognises first-hand the importance of diversity of thought and demographics in senior leadership roles, she’s an ambassador for women in tech and paves the way for young female entrepreneurs. I’m thrilled to be working alongside her in bringing TRAVLR to its next chapter,” says Johnston.

Over the last six months, TRAVLR has rapidly expanded its leadership team with the appointment of former Head of Bon Voyage and Scoopon Travel at Luxury Escapes, Gordy Bayne as TRAVLR’s new Global Commercial Director, Geoff Stringer, a veteran of the global travel industry having spent eighteen years with Lonely Planet as the new Chief Operating Officer of TRAVLR, as well as respected technical leader and entrepreneur with a passion for solving complex technology problems and accelerating start-ups, Stuart Rowe, as Chief Technology officer.
