Brisbane’s only street art hotel is proud to be partnering with one of Fortitude Valley’s most iconic LGBTQIA+ events, Big Gay Day, at The Wickham on Sunday 8 March.
Marking its 20th anniversary in 2020, Big Gay Day has secured a stellar line up of international and local acts, headlined by former Spice Girl Mel C and her band of drag performers, Sink the Pink.
Electric Fields, Cry Club and The Regime will also be performing alongside local act Being Jane Lane and a host of fabulous DJs and drag performers.
TRYP Fortitude Valley General Manager Jason Pratt said events such as Big Gay Day were important for both LGBTQIA+ people and local businesses.
“Not only is Big Gay Day a colourful celebration of life, love and equality, but it also raises funds for six local organisations who do important work within the LGBTQIA+ community, including Brisbane Pride, Queensland Aids Council and Open Doors Youth Service,” Mr Pratt said.
“Of course, local businesses also receive a welcome boost when events such as this bring an influx of people to Fortitude Valley. We couldn’t be prouder to be part of such a diverse display of creativity and positivity.”
The heritage listed Wickham Hotel will transform Alden Street into a glittery, rainbow wonderland for the annual event, complete with pop up bars, games, activities and food trucks, as well as entertainers and festival fun spread across all levels of the property.
Wickham Venue Manager, Stuart Black said the support of local businesses such as TRYP Fortitude Valley was imperative to ensuring the event was a success.
It takes a large coalition of local businesses, community groups, queer artists and operational teams to put Big Gay Day together,” Stuart said.
“Each has its part to play, and Big Gay Day is reliant and appreciative of hotels like TRYP that can do their part to cater and accommodate some of the 3,000 patrons that the event attracts from all over Australia.”
