Turtle Island, a private luxury island in the Yasawa Group, Fiji, is not only the place to visit for a truly authentic Fijian experience but it’s also a great place to work with an employee rewards scheme that saw its star employees recently being sent on an all-expenses paid trip to Hollywood.

On the back of previous trips to Las Vegas and New Zealand, a group of seven of the passionate 90-strong team of local Fijians that help make the island so special, were recently rewarded by Richard Evanson Jr., son of the American entrepreneur Richard Evanson who still owns the island today, for their service efforts with a 10-day trip to California.

Donning “Fiji/USA” tour t-shirts kitchen, housekeeping, activities, joinery, administration, management and boutique staff set off from Nadi International airport on the 11 hour flight to LAX. On arrival they were greeted by Evanson Jr. and treated to a thrilling itinerary.

The tour included visits to LA’s tourist hotspots such as Hollywood Walk of Fame where the Turtle Island stars “met’ their movie stars, Venice Beach and Universal Studios but the highlight of the trip was being welcomed into the homes of previous Turtle Island guests where roles were reversed and the staff took on the status of being treated as VIP’s.

Traditional Fijian lovo and kava were replaced with American ribs and burgers and homemade biscuits and gravy with Pumpkin Pie for dessert.

Of the itinerary and reward scheme, Richard Evanson Jr. said, “Fijian hospitality is so welcoming, gracious and unique and it’s something that truly touches our guests. It’s what they tell us they return for time and time again. Being able to reward our staff for their incredible efforts with something that is just as unique and educational at the same time, providing them with the opportunity to learn more about the place where some of our guests come from is invaluable. The fact that guests insist on hosting staff at their homes when they hear about the reward trip is testament to the ‘Turtle Family’ ethos that’s created during a stay on Turtle Island.”

Junior went on to say, “we are seeing an increase in Australian visitors to Turtle Island and with the destination being so close, a reward scheme with a visit to Australia is definitely on the cards.”
